We are extremely grateful to Mantra Surf Club for the huge support and assistance afforded to us at Walkin’ On Water Mangalore. Without this, our operation would not have been possible.
Mantra Surf Club [India’s first surf club] is dedicated to the pastime of surfing — introducing surfing in India and introducing India to the international surfing community.
Based in Mulki, some 30 minutes outside of Mangalore, Mantra Surf Club is set on the beautiful Shambhavi River just up from where the river mouth meets the Arabian Sea. There is accommodation at the Ashram Surf Retreat with full meals and plenty of activities to keep you busy and occupied in a quiet idyllic paradise.
If you stay, you will surf local breaks like Baba’s Left and Swami’s. Transport to the surf is in Zodiac or
motorised boats. You will find no crowds, fun waves, friendly people and tasty wholesome vegetarian food. If the waves are down, there is a jet ski for wakeboarding, stand up paddle boards ( SUP ) for the river or ocean, and sea kayaking. As a special activity, the Mantra crew can even take you snorkeling to the local Islands.
The Ashram Surf Retreat offers you a comfortable stay in one of our non-AC guest rooms with a clean [non-commercial] home-style atmosphere.
The Mantra Surf Club was started in 2004 by Jack Hebner and Rick Perry who as kids had begun surfing themselves in 1963 at Jacksonville Beach, Florida, USA. Back in the old days both Jack and Rick were members of North Florida’s first surf club, Oceanside, and were among the pioneers of surfing on the East Coast of the United States. They are now pioneering surfing in India.
